Augmented Mountain
In 2010 I partnered with Phoenix Toews, a coder/artist from Santa Cruz, CA to start a company we called Augmented Mountain. Phoenix had built a powerful and agile augmented reality platform he named Palimpsest. At the time, there were only a few augmented reality platforms, and they were all very limited, lacking many of the features of Palimpsest. One of the qualities that set Palimpsest apart at the time was Its place-based capacity. This allows artists to place virtual sound and visual sculptures at precise GPS coordinates where users can interact with them in real time. As Augmented Mountain, we collaborated with Pratt Institute, the Dumbo Arts Festival, Scope, and several talented artists including Laurie Anderson and Raphael Shirley to make nine different space-and-time-based AR experiences.
